The main goal of the College of Education is to train secondary school teachers of high integrity who are well equipped with specific knowledge in their chosen fields: Education, English, History, Korean, and Mathematics. In addition to their regular classroom work, students spend part of their time actually teaching and observing students in approved secondary schools including the four schools affiliated with the University. Upon their graduation, the students are given teaching certificates and are expected to carry out their teaching responsibilities.

Department of Mathematics Education

Programs in the Department of Mathematics are designed to develop competence in mathematics as well as provide the educational perspective on mathematicst. Basically the programs are focused on the cultivation of mathematics teachers, but the programs also aim to prepare students for graduate study in mathematics or related discipline such as computer science and business. The Department of Mathematics was established at the same time the College of Education was established. It has since contributed to the development of natural sciences in Korea. Many of our graduates go on to teach mathematics at all levels of education. Some of our graduates pursue their graduate studies in pure or applied mathematics here or abroad. Others find employment in computer related companies, banks, or insurance companies.

Department of English Education

The Department of English Education trains qualified and effective secondary school English teachers. One of the two most distinctive characteristics of the department is that it offers balanced course work in three major areas: language, literature and English pedagogy. The second is that it provides students with opportunities of being taught by native speakers, thereby promoting students' fluency in modern English as well as providing them with exposure to the cultures of native speaking countries.
Students are also eligible to participate in overseas summer programs offered at our sister universities in the United States. These courses are designed for both language study and English teacher training.
Graduates of the department become either successful secondary school English teachers or active members in various fields where competency in English is required.
