College of Education The College of Education is designed to train secondary school teachers of high integrity who are well equipped with specific knowledge in their chosen fields of Education, English, History, Korean and Mathematics. In addition to their regular classroom work, the students spend some time actually teaching and observing students in approved secondary schools, including the four schools attached to the University. 1. Department of Education
The goal of the program is to produce educational researchers, experts, administrators and
secondary school teachers by preparing students to be thoroughly trained in educational theories
and practices. To achieve this goal, the department offers a comprehensive curriculum of study
including the areas of ideology, contents, and methods of education. All of our students
participate in the Student Association of Education, a student organization, which arranges
field study and special lectures, and which publishes an annual journal, the Research on Korean
Education Development. Graduates contribute significantly to the development of Korean education
by taking active positions in areas such as graduate schools, educational institutes,
administrative organizations, and secondary schools.

2. Department of English Education
The Department of English Education trains qualified secondary school English teachers who can
teach English effectively to secondary school students. One of the two most distinctive
characteristics of the department is that it offers balanced course work in its three major
areas: language, literature and English pedagogy. The second is that it provides students with
the opportunity of being taught by the native speaker thereby promoting students' fluency in
modern English as well as providing them with cultural insight.Students also have the
possibility of participating in the overseas summer programs which are offered at our
sisterhood schools in America. These courses are designed for both language study and English
teacher training.Graduates of the department become either successful secondary school English
teachers or active members in various fields where competency in the English language is
required.

3. Department of History Education
The Department of History Education provides opportunities to study Korean and other cultures of
the world, to acquire appropriate historical perspectives and values, and to learn educational
methods in teaching history to secondary school students.The students of the department can
expect to make frequent one or multiple day field trips to historical sites, remains, and
exhibitions. They anticipate to participate in historical symposiums and seminars, and in the
procedure of publication of Hong-Ik Sahak, the academic journal of the department. The
curriculum of the department includes general and specific histories of Korea, Asia, Europe and
other continents. And it also contains various courses of education which are necessary to be a
history teacher.Over the past twenty years the department has produced many able history
teachers, academics at universities, and researchers and editors for diverse institutions and
companies.

4. Department of Korean Language Education
The aim of the Department of Korean Language Education is to train students to be well-qualified
to teach Korean language to secondary school students. The most distinctive characteristic of
the department is that it offers well-designed course works in the areas of linguistics,
literary theories, and theories of Korean language education. The department also provides basic
grounding in the theoretical and practical basis of instructional methodology of Korean
language, and also promotes the desirable attitude and commitments that a Korean language
teacher should have. Graduates of the department become either Korean language teachers of
secondary schools or active members in various areas, such as publication and mass
communication.

5. Department of Mathematics Education
Programs in the Department of Mathematics Education are designed to develop students' competence
in mathematics and to sharpen their mathematical insight. In addition, computer science is
provided as a minor. The department cultivates students to be equipped to teach mathematics at
all levels of schools. Graduates of the department pursue their graduate study in pure applied
mathematics either at home or abroad, or they find employment in computer related companies,
banks, or insurance companies.
